The Cub Cadet 46 in. riding mower features a 21.5 HP Kawasaki twin-cylinder hydrostatic automatic OHV engine for ample power and comes with headlights, allowing for use in the early morning and the evening. With a hydrostatic transmission, you eliminate the need for shifting to change speed or direction. It has a 12 in. turning radius for superior maneuverability around obstacles, and its 3.3 Gal. fuel tank helps minimize the need for refueling. Cruise control and the Cub Comfort high-back seat provide added comfort while mowing for long periods of time. The Cub Cadet Signature Cut smooth arc blades, cut overlap and deep dome deck provide flawless results.

I bought the 1046 KW model from a local dealer, because I wanted to support them and wanted the Kawasaki engine. The mower itself is very beefy with a rigid frame and powerful engine. I really like the steering, which is very easy to turn despite not having power assist. I have a couple inclines and the motor and transmission handle it without additional noise or indication of load. The cut quality is the best I've ever had, and the grass discharge goes out very far and wide. The small bin on the left fender is handy for hearing protection, mp3/radio (it even has a cutout for the headphone cord), and deck wash attachment.
A couple items to consider, not deal-breakers, but ways to set this brand above all others: Construct the mowing deck with 11 gauge steel for extra strength. Provide a slider near the deck height adjustment stops so I can remember where to set the lever. For the KW model, include arm rests on the seat to further differentiate this model. Put a slightly more engaging latch on the bin so it stays shut better, the little tang hardly catches, maybe a magnet?
